WLC 400: Senior Capstone
Course Description:
Students work with the instructor and WLC faculty advisors to research, synthesize, write and present their Capstone projects. Students will also assemble a Graduation Portfolio reflecting how each MLO was met. This course is required for all Japanese, Spanish and World Languages and Cultures majors.
Course Reflective Narrative:
For WLC 400: Senior Capstone I met with the Japanese department advisers and teachers to research, synthesize, write, and present my Capstone project. The Japanese department advisers and teachers led me through how to best conduct background research, how to best conduct my own research, and how to best present my findings. After I felt I had enough background research, I conducted my own research in the form of online surveys created through Google Forms. Once I had enough respondents, I analyzed the data and created graphs using Microsoft Excel to highlight the most important findings from my research. Once that was done, with the help of my teachers and advisers, I created a presentation explain all of my research and findings. Once that was done, I presented my research findings to the other Japanese major students and to the Japanese department teachers and advisers. Finally, I wrote an essay summarizing my research and findings in both English and Japanese. With the help of the Japanese department teachers and advisers, as well as the Japanese exchange students, I was able to successfully conduct my research project, present my findings in Japanese, and summarize my findings on paper in both Japanese and English.
As well as the Capstone research project, this course helped us to develop these very websites, referred to as e-portfolios. The aim of these portfolios is to provide future employers and/or schools with a concise, easy to navigate collection of our experiences at California State University of Monterey Bay as members of the Japanese major.
